There are some strange looking birds in that film! Seems a little odd that coaxials and quads came before the success of the single rotor design. (??!?)

 

Yes very true @Beaver! Does that mean with the recent upsurge in quads we are actually going backwards?

Some great footage @utrinque ! Would love if they had some subtitles.. but nonetheless interesting though! We have come such along wayu since then. Never saw much head in hovernig in the clips. Most of those would have flown without a gyro...or a primitive gyro at least...
