Well cracked out the 380 at the club after finishing work for the day at MRCHC. Got the 380 up smaked it really really hard. Towards the end of the flight things started to slow down - not like bogging, jus sluggish - and i though speedy was going to brownout. So i quickly landed, pulled the canopy off and pulled out the battery.

The battery was hot - so hot I could not hold it - it literally burnt my fingers. If i had kept flying I believe the battery would have ignited.

I put a few more packs through at a modest pace this time while keeping an eye on the pack. When i got back to the car the temperature gauge read 42 degrees! It was dam hot...hotter than i thought.

So i wonder if its possible to make a battery explode by flying it hard in extremely hot weather.

It's possible to make a matter explode by sitting it in the bench

Sounds like either packs, motor shorting, or a bearing seized, but my bet is on the motor.

Good deal . ....... but just out of curiosity, how many flights do you have on that motor? (assuming its the one you installed when the kit was new)

Quite a few flights @Beaver. Not the original motor but an xnova. Since the hot day i have been flying it pretty hard and now believe I have at least 3 packs with dodgy cells. I think it was one of those pacs that caused the problem as i replicated it again today and it was the same pack (no 8) that died during the heat.

This became even more apparent after I upgraded my goblin to a 420... What a monster the 420 is.... Insanely fast!

That makes sense. So would you need packs with a bit higher "C" rating for the 420 due to higher current demand?
