Castle gov is fine... Try doing the whole 4.0v per cell instead of 3.7, seems to make a world of difference.. Make sure your on the latest firmware.. That includes the beta versions...

But I tend to run external gov anyway

 

yep I love the CC gov as Manyc mentioned 4v per cell is the trick and im running about 15 gov gain on my 700e. Also another thing to keep in mind is gear ratio, nick Maxwell mentioned at wagga fun fly that the gear ratio on a 700 should be closer to 10. But ive found this to be less critical with the firmware. Also the new firmware defaults the cell voltage to 4v these days.

Firmware is the latest. But it actually didnt change the pack voltage by itself.

So I have to set the pack voltage to 48.000 and set the governor to medium (15). - Now the programmed RPM are gone. When I set the three RPM I had will there be any difference now in power consumpting? What does this trick actually do to the system?

By the way: Auto rotation function is enabled. There is some information about this in the software that the esc has a small window of throttle range to get in the auto rot mode (fast spool up and recovery). I have programmed -130% throttle (minimum) on hold on my dx18. Is that right? Or do I need to have exactly -100%?

Ok got it. High at 96% + 2 , low at 124% + 2 , throttle hold at -68%. Initial spool up and fast recovery after throttle hold works. Tested it without blades.

Time to go to the field now. I hope the governor works better now with that 4.0 volt per cell trick, even if I dont know the reason.

I usually just take the blades off.. Increase the throttle cut value till the blades start turning then drop it two points.. I then spool up into idle up hit throttle hold and make sure the head stops.. Then flick it and see if it spools up quickly. It should...

Now this is on the bench so you need to test.. Take it up high.. Then hit throttle hold see the head speed drop them flick out.. Just make sure your up high enough and still have enough head speed in case it triggers slow spool up.. But just be warned if you don't get throttle good low enough it may not kill the motor.. So I usually have idle up 3 to be zero.. As I use this to arm my esc...

Thats the way I did it on the bench. My kill switch is now normal mode (to get back to initial spool up). For idle up1 & 2 the trottle hold works with fast spool up.

It was night and day for me and most of us at marcs. Also you want to have the headspeed change rate at 19 for a good spool up from bailout.

 

Man that recovery took me much to long!! Must have been the longest 4 or 5 seconds in my life ever!! It was so damn calm!! First I thought was there is something wrong it will not recover. Damn hahahhaahha

The governor works better now but when I give full pitch in a hard stop the tail still blows out slightly. Tail torque precomp from beastx doesnt help. Should I give more gain on the gov?

 

I would be looking more at tail set up and precomp than the gov gain. In regards to the gov gain keep raising it till your happy with the performance or you get chatter from the motor.

With the tail start with mechanical set up, make sure you have about 3 degrees against torque. That would be the best way to start on your tail issues.

 

This is how it looks now in mid position. Its more against the torque then in the manual. Thats why I thought its up to the rpm.

 

What about tail servo horn spacing? What head speed you running on this set up?

 

Im using the 4 arm servohorn. It has longer arms than the 6 arm, so that the tail push rod doesnt bent that much. It makes the tail servo work easyer..

I like 2050 rpm. Thats enough for me..

Far more I have to say that I had the same amount of tail blowout with my 500 as the beastx was mounted there..

 

Yeah I used to have a trex 700 but cant remember if I used the 3rd or 4th hole on the 4 arm horn. You have to make sure you have enough mechanical gain on the tail or it wont hold well and tend to blow out. I still think it has to be tail, I have cc esc on all my helis and never had tail issues from the gov. I used to use only vbar gov, but found the cc gove to work quite well with a really easy set up.

 

As I said I had the same problem with my 500 and this gyro and solved it trough a trottle curve. Thats why I tought its up to the governor.

I will check my tail settings again.
