A purveyor of hobby equipment has recently released Graphene hobby batteries on the market.

I have several questions about them.

    - If they use graphene, wouldn't you need a charger upgraded for graphene batteries since its a different chemistry? Think about this one very carefully, after all, you specify a different chemistry in your charger for LifePO4.
    - Would Elon Musk have bought out that manufacturer?
    - Remember the phrase, "There's one born every minute"?

It would of been nice, if it was a proper tear down, and the material sent to a scientific lab for analysis. To get actual facts of what material is being used.

I see what you mean by one being born every minute.

Those black sheets could possibly have Graphene in them......Graphene is the thickness of only half an Atom!! It can be stretched over 25% before it breaks and it's thermal conductivity is comparable to diamond at room temperature. The surface area of 3 grams of Graphene is the same surface area of a soccer pitch!

I read somewhere (sorry can't find link) that these are not true graphene batteries in the true form, I think from memory they have graphene in the the electrodes (but I might be making that up - need link). The question I ask myself is "would hobby king be the first manufacture to put graphene batteries on the market "
I'll keep looking for the link and post it if I can find it again.

I read that too Simon. They apparently have some of that material in them... And cannot have much more of it. Some say the temps after flights is room temp...

Would love to put them through some hard flights.

If you can cycle them 900 times at 15c and they put out 70c, I don't care if they are made of unicorn ball bag hair laminated pixie ears, I'd buy them. But as Karl Sagan says..."Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof" The jury is still out. I think you are the man @MickyD to give them a good hard smack and report back (should you choose to accept this mission)

They may have graphene, they may not. Only one way to find out is to send it to some scientific lab to get the official report, not only to confirm but to find out how much graphene is in fact in the lipo, if it has any. None the less I ain't in a hurry to get any, currently they are a tad on the heavy side. Sure it's still new and other lipo companies will most likely follow. But I'll wait till one of those companies makes one that is much lighter in weight.

You don't need them to be sent off to a lab to see if they're graphene or not. Graphene is one of the strongest materials known to man and the fact that he can rip those pages with bare hands should tell you they're no graphene.

Just did some research and found graphene has a tensile strength of 130,000 mpa. Compare that to your standard heli aluminium (6061-T6) which tops out at 250-300 mpa or the banshee aluminium (7075-T6) at 550-600 mpa. Good luck ripping that stuff!
