lol..I've been reading and re-reading everything I can find on heli flying here lately! Also watching loads of youtube video's with all different types and sizes of heli's.. Didn't realize there was so much that needs to be learned about flying one before you even get off the ground! But hopefully this investment will save me from having to make costly investments when I do start!

There are tutorials here as well.

Then of course, there is the time honored training aid, known to some as "spaz-balls". EFlite_Training_Gear_Set_BCX_2_3.jpg ..... hey.. whatever works.

..... I'm still giggling about that term "spaz-balls"..... it sounds like something else entirely! :D

lol..it does sound a bit funny!! But, yeah. I watched a tutorial series on youtube and the guy was using these. I was thinking how I could make my own. I always like trying to do things like that. but as I got to thinking about it, I guess these things would have to be pretty precise on there weight, length, and placement.

Those actually came from Horizon Hobby. I snagged the image from Google.

Oddly enough, both of those say "Not for use with flybarless helicopters".
I would suggest getting a USB adapter for your radio and getting some kind of a sim.
These aren't the best, but Clearview is cheap enough and does the job. I've been using it for awhile now:

Here is a thread with links to a free one called HelisimRC.

I used it till I updated to Windows 10.... now I can't get it to work--- compatibility issue.

I just got through reading a lot of suggestions on the forum page you suggested above and one thing I seen the most is what you just said now..."sim, sim, sim." So I guess I will have to get me a simulator. I am going to be open to all suggestions as of now. So I will look for a good one to get. Right now i'm running windows 8. I have a windows 10 upgrade available, just haven't installed it yet.

Some of my older software would barely work on Win8, but Win10 pretty much rendered most of it useless.
I learned flying on Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, now I can't use it.
Does your radio have a USB port or just the trainer Jack on the back (looks like a headphone jack)?

It's the DX6 with the headphone type jack. I haven't got it in yet though.
So are you saying I need windows 10?

For a sim @Hellifun its hard to go past NeXt or Pheonix for value. Next probably feels more real than Pheonix (slightly) but Pheonix has more options/helis. I like NeXt because its simple to setup and run... For ultimate realism AccuRC is the go. But its alot of mucking around.

thanks man! I checked out next this morning and will more than likely be going with them...What about "real flight"? I noticed some different "real flight" sim's for sale on ebay that were used for sale and come with the software and a futaba tx.

I tried Realflight at the LHS last week. It looks like a really good sim. Outstanding graphics.... controls seemed realistic enough. I was flying plank mostly, but I tried a couple of the Heli models. It's an older version, so the Heli models weren't up to date.
Basically all it told me was that if I get frustrated with helicopters.... I'll make a good planker.

I love the realflight controller. Its quick and easy and quite realistic. I would recommend getting a second hand version of realflight (try to get the latest) because i personally dont like using my transmitter as a sim controller. The main reason is additional UN-necessary wear. You would have no problem planking @Beaver.. but you would probably get bored. Helicopters are the ultimate flying machine!

I've been flying plank Sims since the days of the Commodore 64. I don't like the Idea of having to have runway and open air necessary for planking though. I can fly heli almost anywhere.
