    Hi there

As Im maintaining my 500 DFC Pro I have checked all bearings, linkages and servos. Some bearings will be replaced after almost 200 flights.

Now, when I move the elevator servo by hand (Align DS515M) there is a noise from the metal gears. It sounds like there is sand in there.. But the servo works fine, moves smoothly by hand or on its own. I noticed this sound months ago when putting on or removing the blade holder. But I thougt its from the wire protections.

All other servos sound normal. Would you replace the one?? Its not a big thing but I dont know if I should do something.

    Thanks for some answers.

    Kind regards,

    Iggy

      Coin toss.

If it bugs you try to regrease it and see if sound improves.

Usually we test servos without load. Actually such tests do not prove much.

      I ment regrease servo gears.

I would not replace such servo unless it gets hot after flight. That is me. Do not blame me if it breaks.

I have seen servo potentiometer wires breaking in flight due to poor soldering in manufacture.

If it ain't broke do not repair.

If you want to feel safe replace gears.

      Keep in mind safety feeling is A L W A Y S an illusion.

Yeah. Could be the reason. I just cleaned the gears and regreased them. It sounds better now but there is still a crunchy noise, but in mid position now. I tested the servo for 3 minutes without load. It isnt getting hot. Seems to work normal. I didnt found the gear shafts anywhere for replacement. So I can fly that way or replace the whole servo...

      Two solutions:
      - sacrifice tail shaft with umbrella gear and simply cut it in half
      - try to save it by using heat which will neutralize excessive threadlock you applied earlier.

      Possible sources of heat:

Keep in mind that excessive heat can damage plastic gears.

Thanks man. Ill try the heat solution.
