Well flying helicopters is not exactly easy. You cant just pick up a controller and start flying. If you think that is the case then sell your helicopter now and go and buy a remote control car or boat.
FIRST STEPS:
Buy a GOOD simulator and run it on a GOOD PC. The two most popular simulators are real flight and Pheonix. Either is suffice, though my preference is pheonix.
DECIDE TRANSMITTER MODE:
Decide weather you want to fly MODE ONE or MODE TWO. Most people in the states fly MODE TWO. Dont pick a mode thinking that other people will be able to show you stick movements. Helicopter flying does not work like that. If you are starting out I recommend MODE TWO thogh if you like MODE ONE that is fine as well
PRACTICE ON THE SIM
Before even buying your helicopter practice tail in hovering on the SIM. You will find plenty good tutorials on this board regarding flying and learning tricks. You should be able to hover all upright orientations before attempting to fly a helicopter for the first time. The tine you put into the sim now will save you big dollars lateron.
BUY YOUR HELICOPTER - MAKE IT A SMALL ONE
Ok people imediately think - Buy a real cheap hobby king special for my first chopper. Or some people think - i will buy a 700 for my first chopper. Again a big mistake. I personally would recommend a MCPX for your first chopper. You can fly it, crash it and it wont kill your cat. Its easy to practice and moving to a larger helicopter is a breeze once you master this little fellow.
CONTINUE TO SIM AND FLY, SIM AND FLY
You should be able to get the MCPX up in the air quite easily if you have been practicing the Sim. LEARN FIRST TAIL IN HOVER... So learn to hover the helicopter in front of you. Then move it to left of field and hover... then move it to right of field then hover . Your brain has to get used to seeing the helicopter in a number of positions. Keep practicing tail in hovering. Once proficient you can move up to the next stage of flying... I will discuss this in the next thread
