Align helicopters have improved greatly over time. But is this due to them taking ideas from other manufacturers? I know it does go on, but I believe - and i may be wrong - that Align will stop at nothing to take any good idea they see and then use their massive industrial plant to churn out product with their name on it. This takes the kudos and profits away from the original designers of ideas. I know patents should be created or copyright enforced but i dont think there is enough money in the scheme of things to warrant such litigation if a company does breach such laws.

I wonder how long until align brings something out like a banshee or TDR.

I could be mistaken, but I am pretty sure the goblin was the first with that sort of design.

Most ideas in this hobby get copied modified improved... once something is deemed popular and flys well companies would be silly not to look at it... I mean how often do new cars come out that look like the competitors.. as long as it's not just a copy and paste I'm ok...

The rear tail cover was something that Scott Gray did about 12 years ago on his F3C machine which JR then integrated the idea into their Voyager GSR260Z in about 2008/2009 followed by the rear body for the Sylphide in Jan 2012. SAB took the concept to another level and actually made the shaped boom which I'd say is innovation based on a proven aerodynamic design.

For anyone to do something about Align using other peoples ideas, they would needed to have patented them in the first place.

There are several requirements to get a patent, such as being inventive, not being thought off before, not being in public knowledge etc.

Problem for any manufacturer is, all the canopy designs are based on general knowledge which is taught in aerodynamics 101 unit in every university around the world. Aerodynamics and its mathematical models cannot be patented.

Theres more than 1 way to skin a cat but not that many stuff will look similar. The rexy speed fuse looks more like the JR Forza to me anyway

Everyone should thank Align for helping make this hobby more affordable to all.
You have to admit they have the most economical heli package's around , not top
      quality but good

Yep... between then and blade is the main reason I got into the hobby... but I will say the quality of the align parts these days seem pretty good...

I thoroughly enjoy my trex 700 and don't have any plans on changing it...

Im not sure everyone is getting what smakme is trying to say. For example if I spend years building a better Heli, and it is different enough to make a big difference flying wise - but cannot afford the costs to raise patents etc, is it right that the big manufacturing powerhouses just rip it off and reap all the rewords for the other guys efforts? So it might be good "short term" for the end user ie cost wise - but is it right? Is it ethical? Will it not stifle new innovations? Now I am not saying Align are doing this but there are plenty of references peppered around the internet stating they are,.. just my opinion..

So the new forza700 is a fuselage.. the maestro is a fuselage but align bring one out and they get singled out?... Yep they do it.. but pretty much all of them do it.

Don't mean to be argumentative... but it happens in all industries and all companies do it.. I mean most if the rotor heads are the same.. sab is bringing out a 3 blade rotor head.. I'm sure they thought that up...

What I'm saying is that trees I do think they copy.. and yep they can mass produce it... and they are in a position to do it quickly...

But sab have gained a huge following and market share because of that innovation... if every other company want looking at it they would soon be out of business

Yes I think its a double edged sword...... saab were also very smart. They realized that in order to keep in business they had to reduce the cost of the helicopters to be comparative to that of align.. Goblins are not that expensive now.

I agree Align has constantly improved it's products, to try and keep pace with the market. I also think, good on thme for giving the people what they want, people like the look of the Goblin, but some people don't want a Goblin...

Wouldn't you rather be innovative and bring out something unique rather than similar.

I like variability and innovation but most people don't want to pay a heap for it. Its in our DNA i think... I mean i would love to own a Banshee and a truck load of 65C pulse lipos but being frugal prevents me and i stick with middle of the road gear and try to fly it like expensive gear.
