Yeah recently made the switch to the vbar and the vcontrol :/ was the the 4th flight on the vbar.
Well I got elevator sensor value and aileron sensor value value out of range (according to the vbar log). Was doing my version of a piro flip next minute the heli comes out weird starts diving straight down. Pulled back full elevator but got no response and yeah went straight in.

Damn, thats one expensive crash. It's great that you still have a smile on your face after that. Hope u get it going again very soon.

Haha indeed it is. The rebuild cost is lingering around $1300 mark unfortunately. Still unsure of what happened. Hoping to figure it out soon. Haha and that smile was slightly forced but hey a crash was going to occur eventually and in the end it could have been worse. The kit could have been a completely written off however luckily it isn't but then again it is all a part of this exciting and exhilarating hobby that we partake in. When you push these machines eventually something will let go haha. But all in all good fun and she will fly another day! The better question is just how soon? :p

Nice try @Crash Heligod! But all you got was a cheap plastic tail blade. :p

Yes you are correct. Something will let go with constant pressure. You have to try and keep on top of it all through maintenance and experience. Experience in knowing your particular model - especially after thorough testing and checking after a crash and using a system when you rebuild to verify its airworthiness. For example, checking the gyro, double checking bearings, having someone else look over your model. And you should go through this process after every crash if possible.

Very true mate! I am still relatively new to helis I guess; only been flying them since the start of last year. I had a minor crash around the 324 flight mark when the main gear let go during tic tocs and was forced to do an inverted landing. After that crash I went through and replace all the servo horns etc. Just to be sure that none of them would cause a problem further down the line. At the point I also recently bought new servos for it so they went on the heli as well. Luckily all cyclic servos survived this crash (BK8001's) unfortunately the tail servo wasn't so lucky ahah but will have her back up and running soon. Just deciding whether or not to rekit it or to simply buy the broken parts since the rebuilt costs is around 75% that of a new kit's costs.

Well. ill come clean, last weekend (sunday) i had two crashes. No photos though as nothing to see.

First one was with the 500L Trex Early in the day
The second was with the 700 E7se later in the day.

The 500L was in normal mode and i was trying out some new tricks i had been practicing on the sim all week. Took off nose in and continued to perform a backward flip pushout anticipating doing a very hard quick half piro to upright nose out. Well. once inverted i gave it full negative pitch, esc saw zero and the heli lost power. I let it auto down into the long grass level but upside down in front of me very slowly. Walked away with one ball joint crack on one of the head link rods. Dissasembled head checked heli over, replaced the cracked ball joint, checked blade alignment and pitch and was flying it again all arvo within an hour :).

The E7se, was fine tuning brain gains and inadvertently went too high with d gains. Checking piro stops (upright), front transmission gears stripped and she started spinning. Hit Auto throttle about 10 metres up and managed to keep her under control during auto. Landed her softer than i could achieve even if i was trying during a normal flight. No damage. Just in process of replacing the front gears. Should be up and running for the weekend.
      :)

      Yes.

I have a very unnerving feeling @Crash Heligod wrath grows and compounds each time I escape his clutches. I'm hoping the minor incidences are taken as suitable sacrifices??????

everyone has done the... "awe shiz in normal mode" trick before.. hence my normal mode has no 0 in it.. esc arming is now on a separate switch...

Yes I admitt to having the normal mode near miss as well. My solution was to eliminate normal mode. So my two modes are off or 100% on! Makes life so much simpler once you get used to it.

+1 here.... but by necessity. Since I'm running a DX4e for my 450, I had to assign the throttle to a simple on/off switch that doubles as hold. No worries about idle-up or not having negative collective available. Simplicity does have it's little advantages. :p

Keep it simple stupid (Kiss) is best. Nothing worse than having to think in a time of crisis. Binary gives you only two logical options - On or off. Even then its hard to make the right decision!

The art of saving a helicopter is just as important as learning new tricks!

I have learned to appreciate that particular art to a high degree over the last few months.

It's funny. I haven't been practising auto rotations in real life. Do a stack of them on the sim.

Somehow I manage to do the right thing when it really matters without panicking, but i still remain nervous practising them routinely at tthe field.

I'm going to have to grow some balls
