I have allways wondered what is better - a belt system or a torque tube system. Goblins run belts, align run torque tubes.... What do you think?

TT. but not as reliable. More power available with TT as well. Could never understand the logic's of that until I made the change & experienced it myself.
I'm not a Goblin fan. overpriced & deliberately mismatched sizes.

      Agree totaly.

I have a HD500 which is full belt drive and it is one smooth and quiet heli but I am able to strip the main drive belt running no gov so each system has its own advantages

I have flown( and still fly) both torque tube and belt driven helicopters, and they both have pros and cons. Torque tube can give more power, but gears can be stripped. Tail belt eliminates stripped gears, but has to be adjusted from time to time. But in a crash, does not normally have to be changed like a bent torque tube. But in colder climates... static can build up in a belt drive system. Where the torque tube is not affected. As far as which is better....I believe that the one that fits your budget, flying style, and personal preference is the best. Just my two cents. :)

Both have pros & cons. I have Mikados with belt and TT and they're both good.
When you think about where you fly it makes a difference. My old Align 450 Pro was an absolute pain for stripping TT gears if you landed in anything but the shortest grass, but the Logo 700 has no issues at all.
The 600SX is happy no matter what....

I have allways thought that belts work really well on smaller helicopters (small torque tube gears drive me mad) but on bigger helicopters torque tubes - when not crashed - are less maintenance.

Very helpful guys. So there are a few views here. Do you think that the design of the helicopter has a big bearing on how successful either technology is? IE have there been dud belt drive systems and have their been dud torque tube systems. just curious

Yes, @Mickstef testament that the TT in small helicopters can be an issue..

I like TT because it's more free than a belt. It's also a lot less maintenance in most cases.

I think your right on the larger helis but smaller helis with TT have been a pain for me.... The belt however on my minip has been awesome... With 450 size TT, just touch the grass and boom... no gears...

Belt drive is good when your leaning because you will touch the tail blades on the ground and strip tail gears , where a belt will jump.

Helis rip the ground when you put them in.

For you "grass landers", I put a 3/16" shim under the back landing skid support on my Trex 500. This gave me an additional 3/4" of tail clearance.

      3/16" = 4.76mm
      3/4" = 19.05mm
